The overall process follows a similar sequence to a kitchen renovation: careful planning, demolition, wall and floor preparation, services rough-in, joinery installation, and fitting off fixtures and fittings.

Final flooring in the laundry is installed using water-resistant materials such as sealed sheet flooring, concrete, or screed. Unlike bathrooms, full waterproofing is only applied if your laundry includes a floor waste (drain). In that case, the floor, floor-to-wall junctions, and any pipe penetrations are fully waterproofed, with proper falls and gradients to ensure effective drainage and protection against spills or overflow. Splashbacks and or tiles are added at this stage to complete the space.

This approach ensures your laundry is functional, durable, and protected — while using materials and finishes appropriate to its wet-area requirements.

Laundries are considered wet areas because they have water supply (washing machine, laundry tub/sink), so they need some level of protection against water damage — but not the full heavy-duty waterproofing like a shower or bathroom.
